Brand Love Language Part 2: Love Notes + Woolen Mittens

Lela Barker

This week, we’re continuing the love fest with part 2 of our “Brand Love Language” series. Be sure to add the downloads at the end of this post to your toolbox.

By adding some magic to your content through thoughtful, lively language, you’re tuning into your audience to create a message that resonates with them. A recent Fast Company article states that “Fifty percent of every buying decision is driven by emotion.” It truly is about how you make her feel that partly determines whether she buys or not and – ultimately – whether your brand becomes her brand. In fact, consumers’ emotional connection to brands is such a strong indicator of buying behavior, New Media Metrics developed a way to measure how much consumers love brands. It’s called the LEAP Index, for Leveraging Emotional Attachment for Profit.

Tuning into your audience will help you make good decisions about the tone and content of your messages. For example, a clothing designer marketing to modern teenage girls would have a much different brand message compared to a beauty manufacturer marketing to luxury spas. Can you imagine how the product descriptions or even Facebook updates might be different? Why they should be different?

So how do we elevate our message to attract, engage, and add value, even if writing is not our thing? It takes practice! Writing which brims with eloquent, thoughtful details takes planning, word keeping and repetition. However, once mastered, your message is a powerful tool that can melt hearts and create fiercely loyal fans.

Part Two: Love Notes + Woolen Mittens

In today’s installment, we’re expanding on the word list offered in part 1 and focusing on the warm and fuzzy words that help us express love. Take note of the words on the list, add some of your own favorites and circle those that stand out. Try weaving in a few of these new words when the opportunity arises and keep practicing your love language.

For more inspiration, I recommend adding the following word resources to your arsenal, too.: Phrontistery, a great resource for rare or obscure words, and Color Name and Hue, a clever tool that allows you to choose a hue and see a word associated with that color. And, if you’re interested, check out the LEAP index’s most loved brands for 2013 to see if your favorite brands top the list.
